FAQ’s

Where did the idea come from for the directory?

The Community Food Strategy (endorsed by Council in December 2018) planted the seed for the Cardinia Farm & Food Directory, a volunteer initiative run by members of the Cardinia Food Movement. Local Cardinia Shire residents echoed a ripe desire to buy local produce but they needed a map-based Food Directory to find it! Cardinia Farm & Food Directory believes local food helps to build strong, healthy and resilient communities at the same time as developing a strong locally-focused food economy.

What form will the directory be in?

The directory will be an online website with a map interface and a corresponding database of food businesses. The online resource will aim to publish an annual paper directory/booklet.

Who can apply to be in the directory?

Farms or processors located in the Cardinia Shire, and who want to/are currently distributing their produce and products within the Shire. Local food businesses located in the Cardinia Shire which purchase directly from farms/processors within 50km of their address. Independent businesses* which provide support to the local farmer/grower community in the form of information/education, access to tools/seeds/materials or other contacts. These businesses will be available in the Community Resources section of the directory.

Will it cost me anything?

No, this is a free resource to promote local food production and processing. Sponsorship packages will be available if you wish to place an advertisement of your business in the directory.

What happens if my business details change?

The listings in the directory will be updated annually by the working group so you will receive an email to verify that your business' information is correct and up to date.
